Taking a break from crafting

Last week I made a poodle skirt and a twirl skirt (butterflies) for my granddaughter.  She loves skirts/dresses that are full of twirl and the one with butterflies definitely has twirl...lots of fabric. I bought the t-shirt and removed the white buttons and added black ones. The little purse turned out so cute... I wrapped the hanger that came with the t-shirt in the black with white dots fabric and attached a yoyo.

WEEKEND

It was a perfect weekend here in South GA...my daughter and granddaugter met us at the spring Calco Arts and Crafts show on Saturday.  It was my granddaughter's first craft show...she's 4 1/2...her favorite items...hair bows and dresses.  The spring show is not as full of vendors as the Fall, we are vendors in the Fall but not the spring. So we went as visitors this past weekend. After Calico, we all went out to lunch to Hardee's...they have toys in the kids meals. I am working on my granddaughter a twirl skirt and will post pictures when I finish.  The picture of the bridal wreath (spirea) is the same as the 4th picture below....spring has arrived....enlarge it for a really good view.  We will be plating our garden next weekend...tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini and okra....we have already  planted some red onions and blueberry bushes.

I Love Cookbooks

This is my newest cookbook...Our Best Bites.  The quality of this cookbook far exceeds all the others that I have.  The pages are glossy, one recipe per page with large awesome color photos of all recipes, lots of tips, freezing instructions, lots of "make ahead" recipes, suggestions of what to serve with, and these recipes are also in the book. Spring

Signs of spring are in our yard...but as we all know here in south GA old man winter is not through with us yet. I have also included a pic of my husbands' new workshop. I do not usually get excited about metal buildings...but when I saw this one, I claimed the front area as mine.  I have not worked too much on crafting....I have spring fever.  We tilled the garden yesterday and planted about 30 red onion bulbs...they were sprouting in the bag.  We don't usually plant our garden until April.  We have had a couple hawks around our house for several years...it's amazing how close you can get to them. This is a juvenile that I snap a photo of through my craft room window...he is looking down at the bird feeder where birds are eating.....maybe he is thinking a meal..maybe.  I hope he realizes that  if he does dive he will hit the post and bird feeder. The pictures in order are: ornamental pear, daffodils, bridal wreath/spirea (this one is special - it came from my mom's house..she passed away 4 years ago), the white bells..I don't know the name, the camellias did not do so well...the winter was too cold. Valentine Dolls

I finished these yesterday...made from a Sweet Meadows pattern. I attached a heart to the neck of both dolls and the pantaloons are made from white eyelet, which I found at the thrift store as a king size bed skirt for $2.

PERFECT WEATHER

The weather is perfect here in South GA, 70 both Sat and Sun  - spring like, but I am sure there will be more artic fronts to pass through here. We are staying outside trimming all the plants, raking leaves...won't be long until we are pulling the tiller out of storage and getting the soil in the garden ready to plant.  Last year was the first year I froze tomatoes...I had 25 quarts and planted 29 plants...and they sure are good in the winter in soups, stews and chowder.

I am working on 2 valentine dolls, which I will post later on this week.

My husband's workshop burned Nov 27 2010 and we have been busy getting the new building up; we put in a wood floor, ran the electricity and he was able to replace everything he had, and moved in last weekend. We were finished with all our our craft shows (he makes trash bins, potato bins, bread boxes, small tables, stools and much more) when it happened. That night my husband left the shop around 7:00 p.m. We went to bed around 8:30 pm.  At 11:47 p.m. our neighbor was pounding on our door to wake us; he had already called the fire department.  It was fully engulfed in flames Most people never have to file a claim on their homeowner's insurance, but we were so glad we insured our outside buildings with total replacement coverage.  We also lost his car in the fire; I was so glad I had pictures of the car that I could give the insurance adjuster.  The only thing my husband said to me when we realized the building burning was "take pictures".  As the saying goes, and our insurance adjuster said..." A picture is worth a 1000 words". We still do not know how it started...fire report stated.. undetermined.  It's just one of those things we will never know.

Christmas 2010

I thought I would share our photos of our little people with fur. Every December, for I don' t know how many years, all the little people with four legs that live here must wear something Christmas and have their picture taken.  As you can tell from their expressions they are not too happy, but they do cooperate  for at least three takes.Also is a picture of our Gingerbread Tree...I usually decorate my pencil tree that is almost 6 ft., but decided to do a smaller one this year.  When we bought our house there was a play house in the back yard and we turned it into a Gingerbread House. Each year I try to add a character. We do not leave the yard art out all year, but we leave the house as you see it.
