Backyard Visitor

Not a good day for taking pictures..no sun and hazy..
definitely had to do photo editing. This Pileated Woodpecker
(grows up to 19"-this is a male)was very coorperative and gave me lots of
pictures while he was eating pecans. I took these photos from my craftroom
window - about 35 feet from him.  This is the best time of the year for bird
watching, since there are no leaves on the trees. We do not know where they
nest but there are always little ones once a year.

  1. He's beautiful, I don't think I ever saw one of those before. Hope you are getting a lot of crafting done when you are not birdwatching! Have a great weekend.

  3. Hi Maxi,
I think this is the coolest bird. We have them around NE Ohio in May. I am thinking about making a feeder just for them.... But we are also thinking about a bat house which the woodpecker would not like. What to do!!!!
Thanks for the supportive words for our Mia! We did the right thing but it's so hard.

  5. WOW! He is amazing! We always saw those in NC but I don't think we've seen one if Florida! The first time I heard one in the woods...I thought it was a jungle bird! Beautiful photos, my friend! Happy Sunday! ♥
